Neither.eml nor.pdf file types are supported as embedded objects in Mac Office, as Icons or otherwise. Embedded Excel files should not be a problem assuming they are Excel file types -. As a workaround, you may save an email as a PDF file in Outlook 2016 for Mac (File > Print > select Save as PDF in the PDF dropdown box), and insert it into a Word file. If an Excel or a PDF file is inserted in a Word file on Windows with Link to f ile box and Display as icon checked, it can’t be opened successfully when you click on it on Word 2016 for Mac. If only Link to file is checked, when you click the inserted object on Word 2016 for Mac, you will constantly receive the same error message. They are expected behaviors. So, to use this insert object feature smoothly between different Office versions, an embedded file needs to be inserted without the link attached.
