My Passport For Mac Not Backing Up Timemachine

Posted By admin On 07.01.19

If you select a differently formatted drive for use with Time Machine, your Mac automatically prompts you to erase it for Time Machine. Reformatting a disk erases all data stored on the disk, so you might want to move important files to another disk first. I had a 1TB WD My Passport for Mac that worked fine on my older Macbook Pro (which has not been updated to 10.10.3) and have been slow in getting around to backing up this new machine. I tried the 1TB after clearing space and it wasn't working. My Passport for Mac portable storage is ready to use out of the box so you can start transferring files, saving your memories and backing up right away. It comes with WD Discovery software for WD Security to help protect your data and is compatible with Apple Time Machine. But fear not, you can get the recovery rolling from the Time Machine backup disk itself: Just hold down the Option key when you start your Mac; you'll be able to select the Time Machine backup disk as your startup drive, and go from there. Ready to go with your Mac straight out of the box, the My Passport for Mac drive helps protect your files with Apple Time Machine backup software. And you can quickly drag and drop files to and from the drive with Finder.

I am a MAC user. I am trying to access a backed up file on my WD Passport from another MAC computer (the WD, through time machine, updated a computer that recently fatally crashed). When I try to access my Desktop file from the 'Latest' backup it gives me the following message. 'The folder 'Desktop' can't be opened because you don't have permission to see its contents.' I have tried to unlock and alter the permissions in the Info box for the file but no dice!

Working

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Welcome to the TH community, WarrencFry! I'd recommend you to check how the WD My Passport would be recognized in the Mac where the backup was initiated.

Another thing you could try is to on the Mac computer you are currently using. Hopefully, that will let you access your My Passport content. If it doesn't help, try re-installing the. Keep me posted with the troubleshooting & Good luck! SuperSoph_WD Thanks for the warm welcome and the help.

My Passport For Mac Not Connecting

Cause the original computer is dead I'm not sure how to check on how it was initiated. On the disk permissions side there were no problems found with the WD device but it doesn't allow me to click Verify or Repair Disk Permissions. I tried re-installing the drives but no dice. Thank you again for your help. Thanks for the warm welcome and the help.

My Passport For Mac Not Found

Thank you again for your help. Hey there again, @WarrencFry! I'd suggest you find another Mac computer where you could connect the WD My Passport and check how it would get recognized! I'd also recommend you try taking the file ownership one more time through the Terminal.

Here's on how to execute the procedure. Give it a try and let us know how it goes! Thanks for the warm welcome and the help.
